Shining Bright: Mahai’s Road to Restoration

In the rural hills of Nagaland, where vulnerability often leaves children exposed to unimaginable challenges, Mahai’s journey stands as a testimony to resilience and transformation.

“I grew up seeing all the abuse and traumas my parents had to go through, which later became a trauma for me,” Mahai, today 24 years old, shares.

Born into a family marked by addiction and domestic abuse, Mahai witnessed violence, abandonment, and despair from an early age. His father, struggling with poverty and frustration, fell into substance abuse, while his mother, still a teenager when she had him, sought love but faced rejection and hardship.

Mahai’s life changed when he was welcomed by those who lead The House Project in Nagaland. Their support, care, and guidance helped him begin his healing journey. Through consistent love and prayers, he slowly overcame his anger and frustration.

Although he had been supported by The House Project for many years, at the age of 23, Mahai was given the opportunity to pursue his dream of studying graphic design. This moment marked a turning point in his life, opening doors to a brighter future.

“Growing up, I had my own share of frustrations and traumas. But my full restoration came when last year the foundation gave me an opportunity to pursue my dream career by admitting me to a graphic designing school, which I am and will always be grateful for,” he says.

Additionally, Mahai is now actively involved with The House Project, supporting projects for children and contributing to the development of photos and videos for the nonprofit organization.

Awon, a leader of The House Project in Nagaland, reflects: “Mahai’s childhood was full of challenges, but with care, prayers and support, he has come so far.”

The House Project works tirelessly to provide children like Mahai with safety, education, and emotional support. In Nagaland, many children live in extreme vulnerability due to poverty, displacement, trafficking, and lack of opportunities. This support ensures that these children can rebuild their lives and dream of a brighter future.

Nagaland faces a serious challenge with child trafficking, poverty, and displacement. Thousands of children still lack basic opportunities for a secure future.

Today, Mahai lives a life filled with hope and dreams. He expresses profound gratitude to those who supported him: “You don’t just speak of God’s love; you show it through your actions. I will forever be grateful.”
