The Transformative Power of Gratitude
As Thanksgiving approaches, it's a perfect time to reflect on the transformative power of gratitude. At The House Project, every day we give thanks for the opportunity to serve those who need it most. Together with the support of those who join our mission, we brighten the lives of more than 500 forgotten and marginalized people each month.
Gratitude is not just a gesture, it is a force that transforms hearts, even in the most difficult moments. To be grateful is to see the beauty during challenges and to trust that everything can get better. This power is what unites us all, from those of us at The House Project to those whose lives we brighten together.
In Maracaibo, Venezuela, a city where 45.1% of households are forced to go a full day without eating at least three to four times a week, according to Codhez's food security report (2023), we provide about 2,400 plates of nutritious food a month. Amanda, a 6-year-old girl, reflects the power of gratitude each week as she receives her food. With a tender smile, she tells us, “Food is pure and sacred, and we don't have any. Thanks” Her words remind us that even in the most difficult situations, gratitude has the ability to enlighten.
In La Guajira, Colombia, in the municipality of Uribia, where illiteracy reaches 49.5%, we support the Kauwanana semi-boarding school, where 28 children receive education and food. Every month, we carry out activities that fill their days with light. This month, we worked on the value of “Anayawachijaa”, which in Wayuunaiki means “Giving thanks”. Through games and a bilingual primer, the children expressed their gratitude for their land, their classes, their teachers and much more. Their smiles reaffirmed the power of gratitude to transform their lives.
Gratitude is also present in Agra, India, where Laxmi, 9, and Shivani, 6, have coped with the loss of their father. Their mother, full of love and strength, is deeply grateful for GreenHouse's support, which allows her daughters to have access to adequate food and the education they need to dream of a better future.
As these children give thanks, so do we for the opportunity to serve. Thanks to every donor who joins in with purpose, we can continue to brighten many more lives.
