At 12 years old, Irunuu already carries responsibilities that many adults are only beginning to understand.
He is a child living in Maicao, La Guajira, Colombia, and the oldest of four siblings, growing up in a vulnerable context where access to education and child nutrition is not always guaranteed.
Some children grow up too soon—not by choice, but because circumstances demand it. Love is what sustains them and helps them move forward.
This is a love story—the kind of love that protects, supports, and allows children to grow with hope.
Every morning, before heading to the school supported by The House Project, an international nonprofit organization providing humanitarian aid and development programs, Irunuu helps at home. He washes the dishes, sweeps the yard, and makes sure everything is in order—not because he is asked to, but because he knows his family depends on him.
At school, supported by The House Project, Irunuu receives healthy meals, child nutrition support, and educational reinforcement, helping him stay focused, learn, and grow despite difficult circumstances.

His mother, Yeimis, has raised her children on her own since their father left a few years ago to start another family. Without a stable income, she supports her household however she can—doing manicures, selling products, and taking on honest work to provide food, education, and basic needs for her children.
The absence of his father has left a lasting impact. Irunuu misses him and the life he once knew. There are days when sadness appears, even as his smile tries to hide it. Still, he continues to dream. He wants to become a doctor, so he can heal others—and perhaps some of his own wounds as well.
Since joining the school, meaningful change began to take place. Not only because of nutritious meals, but also through quality education, daily activities, emotional support, and a caring environment—key elements of humanitarian aid focused on children and youth.
Last year, he graduated with excellent grades and received recognition for both academic achievement and personal character. Today, he continues his educational journey beyond this school—stronger, prepared, and filled with hope for the future.
This Valentine’s Day, let your gift help more children like Irunuu grow with love, education, nutrition, and opportunity.
