A child trapped between opium and violence, but saved by love

A child trapped between opium and violence, but saved by love

Letwang was born in 2015 in a remote village in Nagaland, India, a region deeply affected by opium, poverty, and violence. He grew up in an environment where opium addiction destroys families and leaves countless children without a future.

Life at home with his parents and seven siblings was extremely difficult. There were no schools, no hospitals, and no real opportunities to move forward.

In 2021, the mother of Awon, who now leads the project that The House Project has supported for nearly 10 years in Nagaland, found Letwang wandering alone, aimless, and exposed to danger. In his eyes, she saw the reflection of a childhood stolen by misery and neglect. She couldn’t look away. Moved by his situation, she welcomed him into our project and ever since we´ve been able to provide him with a safe home, education, and the chance at a dignified life.

Since then, Letwang has discovered new dreams and passions. He loves to draw and his favorite color is blue. He’s fascinated by plants and imagines himself surrounded by them when he grows up, learning and taking care of them.

He also has a great passion for sports. Back in his village, he used to play soccer. Now, he’s found himself in a new and exciting role: he’s the goalkeeper for the team. Still, he misses having an open space to play freely, as he did before.

At The House Project, Letwang has learned something super valuable: that discipline, when taught with love, opens doors to new opportunities. Today, he not only accepts it, he enjoys it. He loves learning, working hard, and knows that every day is a step closer to the future he dreams of.

In the nearby villages, many more children still wander the streets without a future, trapped in poverty, fear, and abandonment. Children who, like Letwang, need a chance to transform their lives.

You can be part of that change. Help us reach more children like him.
